Scotland were not especially impressive, though they did have their moments for sure. It will interesting to what Scottish Rugby can do to encourage this team over the coming seasons.
What Ireland rugby needs to acknowledge is that much of this Irish team is passed their prime. It is taking too long to usher in the fine talent coming up through the provinces. There is strength in depth there for Ireland not to have to go through a “rebuilding phase” as was the case in the past - like Scotland are having to do at present.
For these reasons Ireland need to re-evaluate this season. They are unlikely to win this year - I realise that ‘technically’ this is still possible, but this is wishful thinking on Ireland’s part. There has been nothing impressive about the last 3 games. Good, but not great. Take this chance to build the experience of young guys coming through. Let’s take a chance to lose constructively in the last 2 games of the season. For once let’s play the long game!
